Another nice day in paradise...well for those of us without two broken legs. ;-(
Jomie and her team continue to refine their technique for getting her in and out of bed and for using the all important bathroom. The nice thing about her bedroom is that the shower has an open entrance so she can just be pushed into the shower. Did we mention what a wonderful invention the shower massage on a hose is? She was able to sit in one of the wheelchairs and wash herself and then we(no not me!) did her hair. Very stylish with a large garbage bag on her right leg.
Lots of visitors last night and this morning now that she's home. She did take a good nap this afternoon and a neighbor is bringing dinner tonight. I'm still not sure if this place is more like a recovery facility or a B&B, but Eleanor and Stan are managing nicely. They also have a list of volunteers they can call on when they need a break. Jomie's pretty low maintenance, to say the least, so for those that helping out, it's pretty much an on-call situation as everyone is mostly just hanging out and talking or napping.
Tonya and I are feeling a bit better about having to leave Saturday as we see Jomie and team refining their technique for la bano and the wheelchairs. A couple or more weeks and I expect she'll be able to put more weight on the good leg which will really help her in the transition moves where she needs to twist a bit.
Bottomline, recovery is on track with no issues. After Friday I wouldn't expect updates quite as often as I'll be back in San Antonio. We'll continue to talk to her over Skype and I'll update as necessary. At this point it just a question of healing....boring, but necessary.
Give me a few days next week and I'll recap our situation with expenses and donations. It's a good junk of change, but she continues to receive support locally and if the fund raiser works out next month we hope that will mitigate things a bit.
MaƱana...
